MS Excel (Microsoft Corp.)Students receive instruction once a week for half an hour in the computer lab. First quarter, students focus on creative writing using MS Word organization charts to organize thoughts and ideas. Second quarter, students are introduced to MS Excel by creating pie charts and analyzing data. Students use Kid Pix Deluxe as a paint program developing skills in coordination and to work on special projects.
ENGLISH
TEXT: English 3 for Christian Schools – Writing and Grammar
(Bob Jones University Press)Students will demonstrate their ability to construct a proper sentence and will begin formulating sentences into paragraphs. Students will also obtain a basic knowledge of nouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs.
PENMANSHIP

Through daily instruction and practice, students learn correct formation, spacing, letter size, slant and proportion. General neatness is expected of all work.

Students will demonstrate increased spelling proficiency through weekly spelling lessons/tests. This will be evidenced in their daily written work along with weekly unit tests.
MATHEMATICS

Academic Overview Revised 1/28/2008 Grade 3Students will continue their growth in mastering addition and subtraction concepts. Students will master multiplication facts "0-12", and basic concepts in multiplication and division.
SCIENCE

Supplemental Units IncludedStudents will become familiar with a variety of topics from a Biblical worldview. Topics include the study of energy and matter, light, habits and adaptations, and the solar system. Scientific progress is made by asking meaningful questions and conducting careful investigations.
SOCIAL STUDIES
TEXT From Sea to Shining Sea (Houghton Mifflin)
Students will demonstrate an increased knowledge of communities. The textbook’s theme is “land”. The students will be learning about the following topics: our land, the first Americans, how America was settled and the land today. Students will learn about government, laws, citizenship, and our holidays and symbols.
MUSIC
Grades K-6 have music classes each week with the music teacher. Students are introduced to classical music, composers, instruments, hymns and hymn writers, folk music, and basic theory at each grade level. Instrumental music, choir, and fine art electives are offered beginning at 4th grade. Drama, instrumental music, and vocal music are offered as Jr. High elective classes.
PHYSICAL EDUCATION
Physical education is a vital, integral part of Calvary Christian School curriculum. There is emphasis in the areas of running, jumping, catching, listening, and sportsmanship.
