From my years of attending summer camps, I learned one very important lesson in regards to safety, do not run in the dark! When I was in 6th Grade at summer camp in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, we played a game called "Fugitive". The concept is as simple as tag at night, but we were all meant to have flash lights. Well, I lost mine. Instead of turning in for the night, I decided to continue playing. Suddenly, someone was chasing me and I needed to get out of there. As I immediately took off running, I tripped over a log that was laid across the path before me, only I could not see it. Upon falling, my hand went straight toward a twig that was sticking out of the ground. Yikes! Let's just say I learned my lesson in safety, and I still have the scar.
But not only did I take away lessons in safety from my years at camp, I took away lessons in faith, Scripture, and what it means to have friends who want to follow Christ. You see, I kept going back, because I wanted more and more. I wanted to be in an environment where other people wanted to learn about God, grow in their faith, and spend time with other Christians. I went to summer camp 8 years in a row and it is one of my favorite memories as a kid! Now, I want to give back. Not only will I be able to apply my lessons in safety, but I cannot wait for the opportunity to connect with kids in their faith, their knowledge of who God is, and in the many moments of Christian fellowship!
I truly believe that God uses time away from home and in His creation to speak to the hearts of adults and kids alike. We see powerful transformation in the lives of our kids during a week of camp and we get to spend more time with kids in one week of camp than we do in an entire year of church on Sundays. That's why we want to encourage you to sign up your child, GOING INTO 4th, 5th or 6th grade in Fall 2012, to come to camp with us.
This year, we are putting together our very own Calvary Church Camp and we will be having it at Taquitz Pines which is located in Idyllwild, CA. We have an amazing speaker this year, our very own Pastor Eric Wakeling. We also have our very own Pastor Matt Davis as the worship leader for the week!
Registration has begun! You'll find us in the patio area on Sunday mornings after services and during the week in the Children's Ministries offices. Spots for boys are currently full (there is a waiting list) and spots for girls are going fast so don't wait to register! Scholarships are available.
