Bill Barta
Bill made his commitment to Jesus Christ in 1971 when he visited the beaches of the Normandy invasion. He realized that he needed to surrender his life to Christ by asking forgiveness for his sins and accepting Jesus as his Savior. He is a graduate of West Point, served a tour in Vietnam in two combat battalions, and retired as a Lt. Colonel from his assignment in the Pentagon.
He and his wife, Jan, moved to California where Bill worked at World Vision in the president’s office. He moved to Michigan as VP of Operations for International Aid Inc, and later returned to California as the Chief Operating Officer of the Union Rescue Mission. After that he taught at BIOLA and has been consulting with Giving Children Hope, a Christian relief agency.
Bill joined Calvary in 2004 where he has been a key member of the Discipleship Team for a number of years. He and Jan have also been serving in Children’s Ministries teaching the two year-olds and Bill is currently leading the Job Support Group. He has served as an Elder in two previous churches, and headed up Missions committees and a Deacon Board. Bill and Jan have been married 45 years and have four children and 14 grandchildren.
