Calvary's Leaders

Mary Malyon

What do you do at Calvary?

My area of ministry is serving as the Calvary Christian School Administrator.

How did you come to Calvary and how long have you been here?

In 1991 our family moved to Orange County because of my husband's work. We joined Calvary Church. In September 1992 I began teaching at Calvary Christian School.

What is your educational background and training?

My educational background includes a diploma in Christian Education from Moody Bible Institute; a B.S. degree in Education from Portland State University (Oregon); and an M.A. Degree in Education from Azusa Pacific University.

Where were you born and raised?

I was born in Seattle, Washington and raised in Washington, California, Illinois, Florida, New Hampshire, and New Jersey.

Tell us about your family...

My son, daughter-in-law and grandchild live in Canada; my daughter, son-in-law and two grandchildren live in Orange County. Two doggies, McDuff and McDougal, live with me in Irvine, CA.  My husband went home to be with the Lord in March 2000.

Tell us how you "popped the question," or how it was popped to you.

Ah, the memory . . . sunset, at the Oregon Coast in 1965 . . . He asked and I was delighted to say, “Yes.”

What is your favorite memory from your time at Calvary Church?

My time in the classroom as a Junior High English teacher has brought me the greatest joy in my ministry at Calvary.

Who have been the biggest spiritual influencers in your life?

My parents had a tremendous spiritual influence on my life. They loved the Lord and sought to be like Him.  As an adult, the greatest spiritual influence has come through Dr. J. Dwight Pentecost, Professor of Biblical Exposition at Dallas Theological Seminary.  He makes the Bible come to life through his ability to weave biblical history and culture into his teaching of the Word.

Favorite place you've been in the world and where do you want to go next?

Traveling through Israel gave me a profound appreciation for the Bible.  I continue to love the Oregon Columbia Gorge as a favorite spot to travel.

When I can't be found at Calvary, I can be found...

. . . with my friends or family; I might be at the public library; I could be walking the dogs, or I could be traveling up the I-5.

Hidden Talent?

I keep it hidden!

What do you count as the greatest invention of the last 100 years?

Personally, I love the computer.  It allows for research in the dead of night!
