Each January, we join thousands of churches throughout our nation and recognize "Sanctity of Life Sunday."
The Bible clearly lays out the idea that we as humans are made in the image of God. This means from the point of conception to our last breath, every life is valuable and precious to God and therefore should be valuable and precious to each of us.
Psalm 139 says it well in verses 13 and 14,
"For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well."
At Calvary Church, we live out the sanctity of life by:
Treating every baby in the womb with value. We put action to this value through our partnerships with Birth Choice Health Clinics. Birth Choice Santa Ana reaches out to pregnant girls in crisis and offers them hope + grace and free 3D ultrasounds at every apppointment so that they can see the valuable life that is inside them. In 2010, over 747 moms chose life for their babies through the work of Birth Choice, that is a lot of diapers!
We also believe that people living with disabilities are made in God's image and are so valuable to Him and therefore should be to us. Capernaum is our partnership with Young Life Tustin and ministers to teens with disabilities.
We have the honor of hosting Capernuam events here at Calvary on a monthly basis and supporting camp scholarships to teens with disabilities. We also host a special needs track for VBS, have special help available for kids with special needs in our Calvary Town ministries, and a High School Ministry special needs Life Group that goes along with our adult ministry for men and women with disabilities called "Humble Praise."
Finally, as part of the inherent value of human life, we as a Church believe we need to support the cause of the Orphan and the Widow as James 1:27 calls us to do. In 2012, we will again host an "Exploring Adoption" Bible Study and continuing our partnership with Olive Crest's "Safe Families Program." We will also be hosting a Man Day in April, where we will serve widows in our Church and continue the great work of Operation Love which serves widows, single moms and seniors in need through yard work and home repairs each and every week.
