REACH: GUATEMALA

Just about everything we do at VBS is set up to give our kids the best week of their lives.  We also want to give our kids at VBS an opportunity to minister to other kids.  We want to help raise kids that live with a global awareness, taking responsibility for their brothers and sisters around the world.

We're taking a small step in sharing Jesus' love with others.
Here's how we're doing it this year.

During our Missions rotation in VBS, our kids will hear from our missionaries, Chuck and Susan Weatherstone, who will be sharing about their ministry in Guatemala.  Chuck is a pilot with MAF and flies all around Guatemala taking pastors and other church leaders to small villages that are hard to access by car, and simply lands on small dirt roads dropping off these ministry leaders who then teach others how to follow Jesus.

Our kids will be bringing pennies in each day during VBS and those funds will go toward purchasing four new computers and generators that will be distributed amongst four indigenous villages in Guatemala.  Public education in Guatemala stops after sixth grade.  We are partnering with Chuck and others in Guatemala to help purchase these computers to allow kids to continue their education past sixth grade.  Most of these kids have never even seen a computer.

We will also be spending our last day of VBS during our craft rotation on Friday, packing more than 10,000 meals for kids in Guatemala. These meals cost $0.25 per meal, which includes the food, packing and shipping.  We've committed $2500 to this project.  We're partnering with Kids Around The World to literally pack up bags that contain rice, vegetables, soy protein and vitamins.  These will then be shipped to Guatemala and distributed to another ministry on the ground in Guatemala our kids will learn about called Potter's House.  Not only will our kids be packing these meals during their craft time, but this will also be their snack on Friday so they can experience exactly what it is that they'll be sending and know that this is the only meal some kids get all day.
