Fun Fact: Calvary held its first Vacation Bible School in 1932 and it continues to this day as one of our largest evangelistic outreaches to the children of Orange County.
VBS is open to kids entering grades 1 through 6 (in the fall of 2011) and unlike so many others, it is FREE!
At VBS, kids start each morning in the Worship Center "Lift Off" by forming small groups called Flight Crews. This is where we hear our flight briefing for the day. This happens through high energy worship, live adventures and video clips. Then we start our exploration of exciting stations: Crash Course Bible, Craft Hangar, Missions Departure with the Reach Project, Full Throttle wRECk and they will become Taste Pilots at the Sky Dive Diner. We end each day back in the Worship Center for our closing with more worship as we make our Final Approach.
Instead of trying to teach kids more than they can remember or apply, VBS focuses on one key biblical concept daily. Kids learn one important Bible Point which is reinforced through stories, scripture, songs and hands-on activities that help kids know more about God's wonderful love. Each day kids will learn something new about the character of God.
Day 1
Bible Point: Jesus is with me.
Bible Story: The Good Shepherd who is with us and cares for us (John 10:1-11)
Verse: “Remain in me, as I also remain in you.” John 15:4
Day 2
Bible Point: Jesus is my guide.
Bible Story: Nicodemus coming to Jesus at night and Jesus teaching how to be born again (John 3:1-21)
Verse: "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” John 14:6
Day 3
Bible Point: Jesus lifts me up.
Bible Story: Healing at the pool of Bethesda where Jesus heals a man who had been crippled for 38 years (John 5:1-15)
Verse: “For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.” (John 3:17)
Day 4
Bible Point: Jesus gives me life.
Bible Story: Jesus raises Lazarus from the dead (John 11:1-44)
Verse: “Very truly I tell you, the one who believes has eternal life.” John 6:47
Day 5
Bible Point: Jesus is my light.
Bible Story: Story of the Samaritan woman at the well who tells all the people of her village about Jesus (John 4:1-42)
Verse: “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” John 8:12
